Heavy, funky, interesting chunk of music coming from Belgium, The Hickey Underworld have created something worth paying attention to. ‘Mystery Bruise’ is by no means a perfect song, it isn’t even a great song, but it’s absolute full of hooks that dig deep into your ears and refuse to let go.

Sure, the production is a bit wonky, it’s rather short (at only two minutes 46 seconds) but there is an undeniable star quality about it. It comes storming out of the stables, sounding very much like The Bronx, before falling into a melodic chorus, backed by some catchy, choppy guitar rhythms. It’s every indie kid’s best wet dream.

It’d be very interesting to see how the Hickey Underworld hold out over an entire albums worth of material, and based on this one song, I’d be very happy to give it a listen.
