Alberta Cross – Broken Side Of Time
After two well received ep’s Alberta Cross come forth with debut effort “Broken Side Of Time”. Promising more than just clever verses and catchy choruses, have the New Yorkers conjured up music that warrants your attention?
Well the clever and catchy elements that most new bands use to get there foot in the door have not been embraced... [Read more of this review]
All-American Rejects, The – When The World Comes Down
The All-American rejects were a favourite of mine a few years ago, something different to the heavier/punkier stuff I was listening to. A nice, poppy, catchy alternative to the alternative, which I remember very fondly. I sort of avoided their last album, through fear of that memory being tarnished…but here I am, stuck with listening to their... [Read more of this review]
Anavris – Eleven eyes of a simple man (EP)
Anavris are a 4 piece from Glasgow, who if this EP truly showcases then have big big things to move on to (in my humble opinion of course!)
Opening track ‘Somedays you just can’t rid of a bomb’ opens brightly and brings you instantly into what is an excellent opening track, showcasing tight band play, well placed lyrics that don’t... [Read more of this review]
Andy Stedman – You Keep Me Up Till 3 O’Clock
Earnest, honest and charming, Andy Stedman puts a very British spin on American country music. Atleast that’s the feeling I got; the musical backdrop could be any number of ordinary Americana, but the thing that clearly differentiates this and them, is the lyrical content. Unashamedly British, each line of this quirky love song is imbued with... [Read more of this review]
Attack! Attack! – Self Titled
Lostprophets, via Fallout Boy…
…and not bad.
The opener, ‘Honesty’, would sit pretty on any FOB album, sharing similarities in structure, lyrics, energy and even the vocal style (the faux-American accent grating a tiny bit, upon discovering the bands South Wales roots, but no matter…). This comparison could be seen as negative, but as FOB... [Read more of this review]
Automatic, The – This Is A Fix
One of the biggest surprises of the year.
Catchy, intelligent rock; with absolutely no annoying yelping. Opener ‘Responsible Citizen’ sets the scene, with interesting lyrics layered over hooky riffs and much improved vocals, before launching into the albums first single ‘Steve McQueen’. Not quite as instantly catchy as ‘Monster’, but sharing... [Read more of this review]
Avenged Sevenfold – Self Titled
I’d like to start by saying I AM an Avenged fan. I own everything they’ve released in the past in some form or another, and I rated City of Evil very highly (well, for the most part anyhow). This meant that when the new album rolled around, I approached it with a mix of excitement and nausea, just incase they’d fucked it up like so easily could... [Read more of this review]
